Rashkan Castle

A fortress with 2000  years of history in a city with more than 7000  years of history and in the heart of the Alborz mountain range. Reshkan Castle, which dates back to the Parthian period, is located in one of the strategic points of the northern half of Iran and near the capital (Ray city).Now it's time to explore the south of Tehran.

History of construction of Rashkan Castle:

The exact date of construction of the fortress is not known. But based on archaeological research and advanced Roman and Iranian historical texts, it can be said that it was built between 1900  and 2200  years ago, during the Parthian rule.Its name is also derived from the Parthians, and Arsaces I is the name of the founder of the Parthian dynasty. This fort stood in the Islamic era and was completely used as a defensive fortification.According to reports, Rashkan fortress was completely intact even until the Qajar period (150  years ago ). But today, many parts of it are almost destroyed.This ancient structure was discovered through excavations by archaeologists. With the research of German-American researchers, it was found that this fortress was considered as one of the residence destinations of the Parthian princes, and after that it was considered the residence of the ruler attributed to Ray by the Sassanid court.

What do you know about the architecture of Rashkan fortress?

The fortress with a height of 12  meters is located on top of a high hill and the walls of the main structure are made of stone and mortar.In a part of the area, a semi-circular tower can be seen, which has openings for shooting arrows and stationing a guard. On the upper floor, there is a corridor, the floor of which is made with a special type of plaster, which has remained intact until today.Also, researchers have found objects and containers from ancient, Islamic and contemporary times in it. By following the architectural tradition of the Parthian and Sasanian period, you can see the vaulted roof in this fortress.
